Some text books are and some are not. You will just have to check, but don’t expect them to be as cheap as those 10 dollar or less novels. If you do though find an electronic copy of a text book that is not an AZW file, Kindle can read (unprotected) MOBI, PRC, and TXT file, and you can convert DOC, PDF, and HTML files. Is there any in paticular? Or were you hoping for most of your current college books to be on Kindle? (Not likely)

As for the Kindle itself, I love it! But for the price, it depends on how much you are willing to spend. If you are a college student, I don’t know… it may be too much for one with that price.

I’m a college student and I own Kindle 2. So far I have found a few textbooks from the Kindle store, but some cannot be found. Since it differs depending on your subject, you better search for the titles of the textbooks yourself:

For the Kindle, I like it very much. I like to read, and it is very convenient to bring it anywhere along with me. It helps me utilize my time and improve my efficiency. And since Kindle books are cheaper than actual books, it is an extra saving. It is said that on average if you buy 70 Kindle books, the money saved on buying books can already cover the cost of the Kindle device.

You can check with some reviews before making up your decision. Here is a good one:

I know some college books are provided in Kindle format but some don’t, you better check yourself.

And I’ll say the best place to do research is to read the actual customer review in Amazon. They are reviews given by actual users, and plenty of information there:
