In a few months, they will probably be available for $150-$175 as short-term bargains, or in conjunction with other purchases.
For non-e-ink readers, the ebookwise is definitely the bargain–sturdy, well-designed, inexpensive. The problem is that it only reads its own .IMP format, so books have to be run through its conversion software, and it’s a bit heavy compared to more modern ebook readers. But the people who have one, love it–they rarely show up used on eBay because people don’t get tired of it.

Sony and Aztak both are about to release 5" screen readers for $200.
Aztak: http://www.theezreader.com/html/highlights.html (I think I like this one better; it has an SD card slot and text-to-speech features.)
Sony: http://news.ecoustics.com/bbs/messages/10381/584064.html (OTOH, I like Sony’s metal frame, and I know their interface works for me.)
