Buy Kindle Dx | Kindle Dx Price Drop

As anticipated few weeks ago, Amazon.com has released an updated, lower-priced $379 version of its large-screen Kindle Dx e-reader. The changes Amazon introduced to the Kindle DX highlight its lower price, superb reading credentials and do not compete directly with the Apple iPad. The jury is now out and consumers are aware that the Apple iPad and Kindle Dx cannot be compared apple-to-apple really. Kindle Dx is designed for dedicated reading without tiring your eyes, whereas the iPad can do more, but without the comforts of hours of reading and the convenience of long battery life. Kindle Dx is a different product category.

The All New Kindle Dx Graphite

The price of the Graphite Kindle DX sporting a dark gray exterior, was cut to $379 from $489 and the contrast on its black-and-white screen, which uses E Ink Corp. technology, is now 50% stronger. Called “Pearl” the contrast ratio of the display is about 50% greater than the previous generation. E Ink technology, which is used in most e-readers, only displays text and graphics in black and white, but offers a reading experience with less eyestrain than a typical LCD screen used with the iPad and PCs. The 9.7-inch screen offers clearer text and sharper images, as well as the existing advantage of being more readable in direct sunlight than devices like the iPad that feature back-lit displays. So for readers who prefer a large-screen display, this is definitely the device for them. The Kindle DX is closer in size and now price to the iPad, which starts at $499.

Amazon.com’s focus on selling e-books is reflected in its recent announcements. They just released a new version of the Kindle software that makes it possible to play audio and video embedded in e-books. The new app is only for Apple’s iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch, but is expected to be expanded to other platforms. In releasing the software, as well as a handful of multimedia books for $10 each, Amazon is trying to stay ahead of rivals, particularly Apple. Apple launched its own iTunes bookstore along with the iPad tablet computer in April. In addition, Amazon raised the royalties it pays author and publishers that use the company’s self-publishing Kindle Digital Text Platform to 70%, providing they agree to a number of restrictions, including keeping prices at no more than $9.99. Smart move? Well, consumers are the ultimate judge.
