I am interested in buying one and am curious about the costs of the books…do you purchase a package deal where you could say buy so many books for X.xx amount of dollars…or do you have to buy them one by one…just curious as to how these things work…

Well, I know the below post comparing Sony Reader, Kindle and Nook, they have one segment in post where they have compared this cost factor.
"Coming to Cost, well as of today Amazon Kindle available for around $259, Sony Reader available for $279 and Nook is available around $259. Well Amazon Kindle is not costly but if we talk about cost for reading against Amazon Kindle specifically than I will say no Amazon Kindle is cheaper! Shocking!! Humm.!!!
Well why? Check my argument here? Well, I have searched for 20 books available on Amazon Kindle as well as paper copy and compared price, I found savings with Kindle up to 68%, highest was with The Lost Symbol by Dan Brown (I have just compared best seller and running books, other books may offer higher savings). On an average I can see you can save $15 – $20 in my comparison. Well, read around 10-12 books a year (may be higher but not less) than I can save around $150 – $200 by just turning to Kindle, these kind of savings are not available to Sony Reader Books or Nooks (unless it’s published by Barnes and Noble’s)."

Well overall about Sony Reader, books prices are 30-40% higher than Kindle on an average, but it also very per publisher and how they have tied up with Kindle or Reader, but overall Kindle can be much more chepaer option.
Most are less than 10.00, and you can browse the store. Just go to Amazon. They are all cheaper thna paper books.
I pay nothing to read books. My library cards work just fine. I have all the books that I need, and I keep them all at the local public library.
You pay per book. There are a few sites out there that have compared prices and say Sony is definitely more expensive in general. Maybe you should just look up a few of the books you intend to purchase on Amazon and Sony to see what kind of price range you would get? My average price for kindle books is probably $2-3, but I pick up a lot of freebies and a few classics that are free.
There is no package deal, and you need to buy books one by one. On average each book cost below $10 and ebooks on the Kindle are cheaper than that on Sony reader. Kindle books are cheaper than physical books too, so you’ll be saving money as you buy more books.
You may be interested in this article too. It is the best review I’ve ever read about the Kindle:
